running 4 meyer

Ah the topic of juicing. You have heard of juicing, you have heard how healthy it is and for the love of God there are even juice diets that make fat melt away.

*Runs to shop to go purchase top of the range juicer!

Let me start by saying that I am definitely not pointing fingers at anyone, telling them they are wrong or that I know everything. In the past, when I tried every diet possible, I too tried to juice things, and by things, I mean everything. I even got my mom to buy me a juices and smoothies book from Christmas one year. #Winning

“Adds carrot, adds 3 apples, adds banana, ah lets chuck some almonds in while we are at it. They say Kale is healthy, lets add a few leaves of Kale. Adds a fucken entire watermelon for the juice.

Juice done, healthy, right? Healthy maybe. Calories, through the roof.

That brings me to the point of smoothies, they are healthy, right? Adds banana, adds apple, adds almonds and blends. How can I make this a little better, ah I will add fat free yoghurt! Hmmm. Oh, look some chocolate, let’s just add that as well. Banana and almond smoothie, healthy as fuck!

Don’t get me wrong, not all juices and smoothies need to be as mentioned above. This was purely a scenario of what could and would most likely happen.

Juicing, green juices as such, are what got me through the winter so far without getting sick and providing me with more energy for the day.

I stuck with the core ingredients such as the ones below:

  • Cucumber
  • Kale
  • Mint
  • Lemon
  • Spinach
  • Celery
  • Apple
  • Grass, no I’m only joking.
  • Water
  • Carrot (I love carrots)

Key things I tried to remember:

  1. This was not a meal replacement
  2. Avoid too many fruit
  3. Keep it as green as possible to keep the carb levels low (Why drink your carbs when you can eat them)
  4. It is not going to taste as great as a slush puppy
  5. I was drinking it purely to boost my immune system

*The one negative thing is that I couldn’t really keep track of the exact number of calories in any given juice that I made.

Green juice and weight loss

If, like many people do, you cut out most meals and only drink green juice, you will most likely lose weight. The reason for this is, you are cutting out meals which means you are cutting out calories which means you have accumulated a significant caloric deficit over the day, which means it is not the green juice that is making you get rid of the weight, it is your stupidity.

#EatToFuelYourBody, not to punish it!
